On his 67th birthday, here’s a throwback from the time when he stole money so he could audition for an advertisement.
Anupam Kher’s childhood:
During his college days in Shimla, Anupam Kher had attended a walk-in audition at Punjab University, which promised a scholarship of Rs 200 to the selected students. Speaking to a news portal, Anupam Kher had told in an interview to a news portal that if he did not dare to ask for money from his parents, he stole Rs 118 from his mother’s temple.
Anupam Kher’s reminiscence:
Recalling that day, Anupam Kher told that when he came back home after giving an audition, his parents had called the police that the theft had happened. The veteran actor denied stealing the money and a week later, he confessed the truth after his father asked him. Anupam Kher added that his mother gave him a tight slap while his dad revealed that he had secured the scholarship of Rs 200.

Marking his birthday today, Anupam Kher penned a lengthy note about taking up fitness seriously this year. “Today as I start my 67th year, I am motivated and excited to present a new vision I have for myself! These pics are an example of the slow progress I have made in the last couple of years. 37 years ago, you met a young actor who debuted most unconventionally and played a 65-year-old man. Throughout my career, I have tried to explore every single avenue as a performer.
But there is one dream that I always had inside me, but never did anything to make it a reality. The dream was to take my fitness seriously and look and feel like the best version of myself. I have started walking the path of my fitness journey and as with everything else that I do, I want to share this journey with you.
