Thiruvaiyaru is the home of Thiyagaraja swami,one of the world celebrated sangeet triads.Thiru+Aintu(5)+aaru(rivers).Cauvery and tributary rivers Kudamuruti,Vennar,Vettaru and vadavaaru are the 5 rivers,  and so the town got its name as Thiruvaiyaru. Here is a very special one, that is Ashoka Halwa available only in Thiruvaiyaru ,Thanjavur district.

Ashoka halwa is made with moong dal, sugar, ghee. It is much easier to make than other types of halwa. At the same time, the taste is amazing.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Moong dal – 1 cup
  • Sugar – 3 cups
  • Wheat flour – ¼ cups
  • Ghee – 1 cups
  • A little cashews
  • A little kesari powder.

Preparation Method :

  • Fry the dal in a pan slightly
  • Cook it until it becomes soft in the cooker.
  • Then add some ghee in the pan fry the wheat flour until fragrant.
  • Add boiled dal with wheat, add sugar and kesari powder.
  • Once it is well rolled,add ghee roasted cashews and serve it.

Note :

  • Constant stirring is common to all types of halwa. Stir to avoid lumps.
  • Kesari powder is up to your choice. the taste will not lack due to that.
