IAS Tanu Jain attempted the UPSC test for the first time in 2012 but failed. She tried again two years later, in 2014, and succeeded on her third try. She was assigned to the Armed Forces Headquarters Service for her first posting in 2015. Vatsalya Pandit, her spouse, is also an IAS officer.



IAS Tanu Jain graduated from Subharthi Medical College in Meerut with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree. Even though she was a dental surgeon, she had the feeling that something wasn’t right. She then made the decision to take the UPSC test.

After just two months of study, she passed the UPSC preliminary exam on her first try. She was unable to pass the main exam, nevertheless. In her third attempt in 2014, she achieved the 648th place
