Millet Delight Recipe, Ragi Puttu

Ragi can be consumed by everyone from a newborn to a 90 year old adult. Ragi helps repair damages tissue an balance the body’s nitrogen status.Being rich in calcium,bones become stronger. Phytochemical compounds help control diabetes.

Ragi Puttu


  • Ragi – 200 grams
  • Red rice – 100 grams
  • Jaggery – 1 cup
  • Coconut – 1 cup
  • Cardamom – one
  • Banana – some pieces
  • Ghee – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1 pinch

Preparation Method

  • First the Ragi and red rice combine both and grind it into semolina.
  • Then heat the water gently,sprinfle it in the batter and squeeze it,wet and sqeeze it.wet and squeeze a cloth over the idli plate,cover with the batter and steam it.
  • Once cooked,pour it into a plate and mix it with ghee, grated coconut,chopped fruit pieces,salt,jiggery and cardamom powder.The delicious Ragi puttu is ready.


  • This can also be made as semolina upma. In the third step the seasoning with mustard and chilly will give a different and healthy ragi semolina upma.
