The eight directions and their deities
North — Kubera (wealth). North-east — Ishana (the divine). East — Indra (recognition). South-east — Agni (energy). South — Yama (steadiness). South-west — Nirriti (stability). West — Varuna (gain). North-west — Vayu (travel). Put each room in its proper direction and that energy comes into the house.
Which room — which direction
Kitchen — south-east (the direction of Agni). Shrine or prayer room — north-east. Master bedroom — south-west. Children's room — north-west or west. Toilet — south-west or north-west. Study — west. Main door — north, east or north-east is recommended.
Why the north-east matters
It is the direction the morning sun rises from — most of the UV entering the house comes from there. Put water in the north-east (storage, a well), open space (a terrace), the prayer room. No heavy objects and no toilet. Keep it unobstructed. A small vessel with a lotus flower in the north-east is said to increase prosperity.
Mistakes to avoid
1. A toilet in the north-east. 2. A door or wall directly facing the main door (the energy hits the wall). 3. Sleeping in the south-west with your head to the north (magnetic pull). 4. Stove and water side by side (fire and water at war). 5. A full-length mirror reflecting the bed head-on.
Rental-friendly fixes
Can't change the construction? These five: 1. An ‘Om’ symbol or a swastika on the main door. 2. Keep the north-east corner clean, with a lotus. 3. Sleep with your head to the south or east. 4. Cook facing east at the stove. 5. Face east or north while studying.
