The core idea
Twelve major energy channels (meridians) run through the body. When they are blocked you get pain, illness, fatigue. Press correctly on a specific point along that same channel and the block clears — that is acupressure.
5 points you'll use every day
LI4 (Hegu) — in the web between thumb and index finger; headache and fever. P6 (Neiguan) — three fingers down the arm from the wrist crease; nausea and pain. ST36 (Zusanli) — four fingers below the knee on the outer side; digestion and energy. GB20 (Fengchi) — at the base of the skull behind the neck; headache and eye strain. SP6 — four fingers above the ankle on the inner leg; women's health.
How to press
Use the thumb or the middle finger. Firmly, but never to the point of pain. Press 30 seconds → release 30 seconds → 3–5 rounds. Breathe deep and loose. Only three times a day on any one point.
When to skip it
During pregnancy — LI4 and SP6 are completely off-limits (they can trigger labour). Not over an injury, a rash or a lump. With diabetes or heart disease, ask your doctor first.
How soon you'll feel a change
For immediate complaints like headache and nausea — within 5–10 minutes. For sleep and digestion — a week of consistent practice. For long-standing problems — 4 to 6 weeks.
