No job, no promotion for pregnant women: Opposition to SBI regulation

New Delhi: The State Bank of India (SBI) has said that if a woman’s gestation period exceeds 3 months, she will not be recruited to the State Bank of India and will not be considered for promotion if she is more than three months pregnant.

The State Bank of India is the largest public sector bank in the country. The new regulation, which has been issued in connection with women’s pregnancies, has been widely condemned.

The State Bank of India has stated that if a woman’s gestation period exceeds 3 months, she will not be recruited to the State Bank of India and if she is more than three months pregnant, she will not be considered for promotion. If she had all the qualifications to join the service, she would be considered medically eligible to join the service only 4 months after her parturition.

In this regard, Kerala states MP. Binoy Viswam has written a letter to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. He said on his Twitter page that, insulting pregnancy is a crime against motherhood. It is discrimination against women. SBI’s rules are unconstitutional. He asks the finance minister to get involved in this and take immediate action to withdraw this gender-discriminatory circular.
