Village Vintage Recipe, Greens Gravy (Keerai kootu)

Nowadays,it is necessary to eat nutritious foods to protect us from diseases and such nutritious foods include greens.Greens is one of the fiber-rich. Due to this, it helps in digestion of food in the stomach for those who eat it.It is important to keep the kidneys healthy. Greens helps the kidneys and bladder and related organs function better. Nutrition Vitamin A, B, C, Iron, Potassium, Manganese, Magnesium and other minerals are rich in spinach, all of which help the overall health of the body such as bone growth and stability, heart and blood vessels. Everyone from kids to adults can reap many benefits from eating greens.Lets see how greens gravy(keerai kootu) made in village style.

Ingredients

  • Greens(any) – 1 bunch,
  • Toor dal – 50 gm,
  • Garlic clove – 10,
  • Onion – 2,
  • Tomato – 1,
  • Chilli – 5,
  • Mustard, Urad dal – 1/2 tsp,
  • Coconut – half a cup ,
  • cumin – 1/2 teaspoon,
  • turmeric powder – little,
  • salt, oil – as required.

Preparation Method

  • First, Strain the greens and wash it well and keep it separately. Wash the lentils well and soak them for 15 minutes. Put coconut, cumin, chillies – 3 in a mixing jar and grind them finely.
  • Now light the stove and place a cooker in it. Add soaked lentils, chopped onions, tomatoes, garlic cloves, turmeric powder and a little salt and cover the cooker. Boil till 3 whistles.
  • Add the washed greens and finely chop them. Once the greens is cooked, add the grated coconut mixture. Boil for 5 minutes and pour the seasoning.
  • First add mustard, urad dal, curry leaves and let it splutter, then add two chillies. When lightly fried, add seasoning. Greens gravy joint is ready, which is so simple and easy to make.
