Karaikudi,the south Indian city is famous for its unique houses.The houses here are built of limestone and locally known as karai houses.Some of the best south Indian languages films have been shot on sets here. Tourists are not only attracted by the fact that films are shot here,but also by Karaikudi unique culinary style,prepared in different ways and food items.

Fish gravy is delicious because of the ingredient which is added freshly in correct quantity and it is cooked in the mud pot. Fish gravy cooked in karaikudi tastes better and is healthier.Fish curry will be favourite recipe among food lovers.

If you are a non vegetarian, you should definitely include fish in your diet.Fish contains a lot o nutrients, which protect the body from various types of diseases. People should eat fish to improve the good eyesight. Fish are low in fat. And it contains high quality proteins. It is rich in vitamins like omega – 3 fatty acids,vitamin D and vitamin B2,It is beneficial for physical health.

Ingredients

  • Fish – ½ kg
  • Tomato – 1
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Shallots – 10
  • Coriander – 3 tsp
  • Ghee – ¼ cup
  • Curry leaves – a bunch
  • Fenugreek – 10
  • Pepper – ½ tsp
  • Cumin – ½ tsp
  • Grated coconut – ¼ cup
  • Salt – as needed

Preparation Method

  • First, dissolve tamarind in ½ cup of water and filter.Grind coconut,pepper,cumin and curry leaves with little water.
  • Cut onion and garlic lengthwise. cut the tomatoes into medium pieces. Cut the fish into large pieces
  • Add cumin,pepper and fenugreek and curry leave to the pan and season it. Then add garlic and onion and sauté for 2 min.Add tomatoes and sauté well.
  • Then add fermented water,turmeric powder,chilli powder,coriander powder and salt and let it boil. Once it starts boiling well,add the ground masala and let it boil till the gravy thickens.Add the chopped fish pieces and cook for 10 minutes.Delicious fish gravy is ready.
