Natives And Recipe: Palakkad Rice Poori

Nestled through the western ghats in Kerala,Palakkad district is famous for its sprawling green paddy fields. Palakkad districts is know as “rice granary of Kerala”.Its surrounded by forest and hills is a delight.

Apart from that being very close to Tamilnadu you can taste different cuisines in palakkad with a mix of Kerala and Tamilnadu.

Rice Poori Exclusive

Rice poori is very famous in Palakkad. we make poori only in wheat flour or maida flour.But we are going to make this poori in rice flour. Also, some spices will be ground and made, so it will be very hearty to eat.

Ingredients

  • Coconut – ¼ cup
  • Onion – 1
  • Cumin – ½ tsp
  • Rice flour – 2 cup
  • Salt
  • Water

Preparation Method

  • First take the mixie jar take ¼ cup grated coconut. A medium sized Onion, peeled and chopped cumin as much salt as required for the poori put it as good as paste grind it.
  • Put 2 cups of rice flour in a wide bowl. Pour the paste that is ground in the mixie jar into the rice flour and knead it.No water required, sprinkle little water if necessary and knead the dough into poori dough and make small balls.
  • This poori cannot be rubbed in a poorikatta, rub oil on a banana leaf or a plastic cover,put this rice flour ball on it,put a platic cover on top and press it with a plate,then the poori is ready.
  • Tap this pooti like a plate,do not make it too much thin,it should e quite thick.
  • Put a pan on the stove and pour oil in it and heat it well. If you fry this poori in hot oil,it will become super soft rice poori.

Note

  • Children will eat this poori even they are simply given. Potato masala ,veg gravy can be eaten by touch as side dish.
  • Even sambar can be eaten, its our choice.
