Janani Iyer was born on 31 March 1987 in Chennai.  She completed her school in D.A.V. School in Gopalapuram and she completed B.E computer science in Saveetha Engineering College. Though she is an Engineering graduate her dream was to become an actress.

Janani Iyer started her career has to model and she acted in more than 150 advertisements. At a certain point of time, she came to cinema industry and done some small role in Tamil films. She acted as a Background model in “Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru” movie and she acted as an assistant director in “Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa” movie.

In 2010, Janani Iyer was introduced as a heroine in the movie “Avan Ivan” directed by director Bala. Director A. L. Vijay recommended her for this movie. So she went to photo shoot for that movie. Director Bala was expecting a Tamil speaking young newcomer for that movie and Janai Iyer suites his expectation. So she was selected as a heroine for that movie. She acted as a police constable in that movie. After that, she acted as a heroine in many movies.

In 2013, Janani Iyer entered into Malayalam cinema industry and she acted in a movie “3 Dots”. After that in Tamil, she acted in a movie “Thegidi” which became a huge success and she got a good name and fame via that movie. After Thedigi movie she was not using her surname Iyer and she is being called as Janani.

After Thegidi movie Janai Iyer was busy in Malayalam film. She acted nearly 5 Malayalam films after that. In 2017 Again she acted in Tamil movie, “Adhe Kangal”. The film with the same title was released in 1967 and it was a huge hit at that time. So there was an expectation for this movie too. After that, she acted in “Mupparimanam” , “Balloon, “Vidhi Madhi Ultaa” and few other movies. In Ballon movie, she played a village girl role and she said that actress Sridevi was an inspiration for her for that role.
