The central government has said that green Airports will be set up at 12 locations across the country, including Karaikal in Pondicherry.
Central Aviation Minister Jyotir Aditya M Cynthia in the Lok Sabha today: The Government of India has formulated the Green Airport Policy 2008, which provides guidelines, procedures, and conditions for the establishment of new green airports in India.
There are 21 green airports across the country, namely Moba in Goa, Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra, Shirdi and Sindhudurg, Kalaburagi in Karnataka, Bijapur, Hassan and Shimoga, Tadia (Gwalior) in Madhya Pradesh, Kushinagar and Noida (Jwar) in Uttar Pradesh, and Tolera in Gujarat, The Central Government has approved the setting up at Karaikal, Thakadarti, Bogapuram and Oravakkal in Andhra Pradesh, Durgapur in West Bengal, Bagyong in Sikkim, Kannur in Kerala and Holongi (Itanagar) in Arunachal Pradesh.
International airports are planned at Moba, Navi Mumbai, Shirdi, Noida (Jawahar), Tolera, Hirasar, Bogapuram, Kannur, and Kushinagar, and the rest as domestic airports. Of these, Durgapur, Shirdi, Sindhudurg, Bagyong, Kannur, Kalaburgi, Oravagal, and Kushinagar ports commenced to take off.
