When Ram was eight years old in 1989, he began his journey by helping his father sell food from a pushcart. Ram would travel to various locations to sell the dosas and idlis that his father would bake. Ram, who worked with great enthusiasm, had witnessed his father’s hard times numerous times. Ram decided that the same thing shouldn’t go on, so he put in a lot of study time and earned an MBA.
With a degree in one hand and fatherhood experience in the other, Ram wasn’t sure if he should pursue a wage position or run his own business. Even though he had the chance to work for a reputable company and earn Rs. 20,000 a month, he chose to take up his father’s business. For the first few years, Ram had trouble finding the suitable clients. Seeing that the company was not doing well, he made the decision to continue by increasing the investment and making certain adjustments. Ram stated in a BFirst interview that,
“I questioned myself. With all the dosa eateries in Hyderabad, why should customers visit my shop? I tried creating dosa in a variety of flavors after that,” he added.
Ram produced a wide variety of dosas, including paneer, cheese, and pizza. With Hyderabad experiencing a growth in BPO and IT businesses, I discovered that there weren’t many excellent restaurants open past 11 p.m. At that point, according to Ram, he made the decision to turn the store into a restaurant at night.
Ram also operates his restaurant with the fundamental tenet of never sacrificing quality. His efforts did not go in vain because he believed that delicious food always draws people in. Customers began to arrive at his establishment gradually. His ‘Ram Dosa House’ hotel opened as a result of his achievements. Even now, Ram, who manages and frequents the hotel, gets in his trolley and heads to the Nampally area to make sales.
