The incident in which an IAS officer arranged the marriage of a woman who was left unassisted after losing their parents in the tsunami is now going viral on social media. The tsunami devastated the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu on December 26, 2004, 18 years ago. It is heart-breaking to think of its worst demanding transcendence today. Within minutes the Holocaust took the lives of many. No one had ever seen a natural disaster like this before. Tamil Nadu in particular, more than 7,000 people were dead in coastal areas including Chennai, Cuddalore, Velankanni, Nagapattinam, and Kanyakumari.

The death toll in India alone has crossed 10,000. Thousands of people lost their belongings. Thus, various relief work was carried out by the government and international charities. The affected people are still suffering mentally and economically. The Nagapattinam district in particular was the worst affected. Many children lost their parents in the tsunami.

Annai Sathya home after Tsunami:

At that time 99 orphaned children were adopted and brought up in the Annai Satya home started by the government in Nagai. Also, Radhakrishnan went to examine the effects of the Tsunami. He met two children Sowmiya and Meena who were crying near the bridge at that time. In that sowmiya was a 9 months old baby and Meena was 3 months old. They were adopted by the then Naga District Governor and now Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Radhakrishnan.

Radhakrishnan rescues and raises:

He then rescues children and nurtures them with humanity to this day. Also, even though Radhakrishnan was transferred to Chennai, he used to visit Nagapattinam every month and spend time with the children and contributed not only to their education but also to their development. Then Sowmiya and Meena were adopted and raised by Malarvizhi and Manivannan, who live on Nagapattinam Beach Road after the age of 18.

Marriage of Radhakrishnan’s adopted daughter:

Sowmiya was married today. The wedding was presided over by Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Radhakrishnan. Their wedding took place at the Officer’s Club. Nagai District Collector Arun Thambu Raj, Nagai SP Jawahar, NGO NGOs, and social activists participated in the event. Also, Sowmiya’s foster parents were praised for treating them as their children.

Netizens praising Radhakrishnan:

Also, what Sowmiya is saying about this is that I am happy to be married. Sowmiya has shed tears of joy that it was Radhakrishnan who raised her after she was orphaned without any support. He was a great father and a protector, she added. Radhakrishnan is not only doing his best to help the affected children with education and work but is also looking after them until they are settled in a good married life. Many are now praising Radhakrishnan for his humanity. This is awesome!! Hats off exemplar!
